TALK LISTEN DOOR
December 16, 2023 – January 16, 2024

Soft Serve Projects is pleased to present "Talk Listen Door," a show that delves into the thresholds between indoor and outdoor, domestic and public spaces, exploring the connections and membranes within this binary.

"Talk Listen Door" refers to the inscribed instructions found on intercoms, which often serve as the filter between life on the city block and one's apartment.

In the exhibition, Lucas Bourgine and Nate Millstein, both present works exploring the concepts of barriers, passages, and portals, as well as the fixed objects that reside within these transitional spaces—pipes connecting to public infrastructure, air-conditioners enhancing interior life on hot summer days, and windows serving as apertures through which to view the public realm from the private sphere..

Spring Cleaning
May 21 – June 4, 2023

Organized as an open call welcome to all mediums, the purpose of Spring Cleaning is to give artists an opportunity to part with pieces that no longer fit in their lives. Maybe it's a painting from years past, a photograph from a senior thesis, or a sculpture made last week. This exhibition collects unrecognized moments of creative production, and offers a space to pause and reflect on their various meanings and qualities, and hopefully in the process grant the forgotten new lives in homes and minds across the city and country.

Middle Room
November 18, 2022 - January 8, 2023

Soft Serve is pleased to present “Middle Room,” an exhibition about domestic space, vernacular imagery, and the never-ending cyclone that visual culture offers us for exploration. “Middle Room,” takes place in the central room of our railroad apartment, converted into a site to study the ephemera of our everyday, flanked on each end by active living space. The exhibition features objects that are culturally, historically, and emotionally part of everyday life and that live within the context of our home — familial artifacts, thrifted objects, and the work of young artists. By juxtaposing contemporary artworks with vintage vernacular photographs and cultural ephemera, we aim to highlight how we have been conditioned to preserve, accumulate, and cherish the detritus of our individual domestic lives.

 Art For Ukraine
June 1 - 30, 2022

For our inaugural project, Soft Serve launched a fundraiser to support Ukraine during this difficult time. Both our families come from Ukraine and we wanted to give back to the Ukrainian Queer community for Pride 2022.

Soft Serve teamed up with Kyiv Pride to donate 100% of the proceeds from the fundraiser to the organization’s LGBTQI shelter and community center in Kyiv.

We would like to thank the immeasurably talented participating artists that were kind enough to donate their work to the fundraiser.
